Martin served as the Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions at the Department of Justice prior to joining Chambers in 2019. In his 24 years with the Department of Justice, he had worked at almost every post in the Prosecutions Division and was in charge of policy and administration (cum Chief of Staff) of the Division as well as proceeds of crime and departmental summons cases before he left the Department.
Martin is particularly experienced in criminal appellate work at higher courts, specializing in human rights as well as constitutional and administrative law. Martin's main areas of practice cover commercial fraud, corruption, white collar crime, money laundering and proceeds of crime, regulatory work involving investigation by the Securities and Futures Commission, departmental summons (industrial or building summons, quasi-criminal land matters, etc.) and public law (judicial review and constitutional law).
In addition to his legal practice, Martin is an Honorary Lecturer and an Adjunct Professor at the Department of Professional Legal Education, Faculty of Law, University of Hong Kong. He is also a seasoned advocacy trainer teaching regularly at universities as well as for the Bar at the Hong Kong Advocacy Training Council.
Martin has served as a Deputy High Court Judge in 2019 and 2020. He has been appointed Recorder of the Court of First Instance of the High Court on January 1, 2021 for a term of three years. Martin is currently the Chairman of the Committee on Criminal Law and Procedure of the Bar Council and has been appointed since 2020.

HKSAR v Cho Kwai-chee and 2 others, DCCC 678/2019 [2020] HKDC 1126 -- defended one of the accused in this conspiracy to defraud trial arising out of the Convoy Global Holding Ltd investigation by the SFC and ICAC.
Sino Bright Enterprises Co. Ltd v SJ and others (HCAL 1060/2017) [2020] 1 HKLRD 446 -- appeared for the Secretary for Justice in this application for judicial review which challenged a decision not to prosecute the former provisional liquidator of a listed company for certain bribery offences.
HKSAR v Tse Yee Ping (2016) 19 HKCFAR 427 -- building summons case heard in the Court of Final Appeal
HKSAR v Luckcan Development Ltd [2019] 2 HKLRD 401 -- building summons case involving collateral challenge to building order heard before the Court of Appeal
HKSAR v Chan Yau Hei (2014) 17 HKCFAR 110 -- outraging public decency – whether internet online forum constitutes a public place for the purpose of the charge
HKSAR v Chow Nok Hang (2013) 16 HKCFAR 837 -- disorderly conduct in public place – breach of peace – throwing “hell money” during public protest
HKSAR v Wong Tak Keung (2015) 18 HKCFAR 158 -- conspiracy to traffic in dangerous drugs
Interush Ltd v The Commissioner of Police and others (CACV 230/2015) [2019] 1 HKLRD 892 -- appeared for the respondents in this appeal against a decision to refuse a judicial review that challenged the constitutionality of the “Letter of No Consent” Scheme as part of the anti-money laundering regime under the Organized and Serious Crime Ordinance, Cap.455.
HKSAR v Yu Lik Wai William and another (CACC 237/2015) [2019] 1 HKLRD 1149 -- appeared for the respondent in this appeal which raised questions concerning the operation and construction of s.61 of the Interception of Communications and Surveillance Ordinance, Cap. 589.
